Adolph John Onken of Francesville died Tuesday night at Little Company of Mary hospital, where he had been a patient for two months. He was eighty-seven years old and had been in failing health for some time. Born in Germany on June 28, 1872, he came to this country at the age of fourteen. He was married to Miss Anna Walters of Remington in 1895 and they moved to the Francesville community about sixty years ago. Mr. Onken retired from the farm thirty-four years ago and moved into Francesville. He built the Onken Service station on what is now State Road 421 and after several years turned it over to his son Edward. He was a member of the Salem Evangelical and Reformed church. Mrs. Onken preceded her husband in death on March 20, 1951. Survivors include four daughters and six sons: Mrs. Lena Coffel of Bremen, Mrs. Hilda Curwick, Mrs. Hazel Robinson of Monon, Mrs. Edna Dobbins of Francesville, Henry of Evansville, Wis., Arthur of Pulaski, Carl, Edward, William and Walter of Francesville; twenty-six grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren, a brother, Herman of Webster City, Ia. Two sons, Herman and John, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the Querry home in Francesville with the Rev. a. L. Schieler officiating. Burial will be in Roseland cemetery.
