Obituary from 8/7/1945, Walla Walla Union Bulletin:

Death Takes Mrs. M. McGrew

Mrs. Aldorah Susan McGrew, 82, died Monday afternoon at the family home, 1033 East Alder street. street[ sic].

Mrs. McGrew was the wife of Mansfield C. McGrew and they came to the Northwest in 1888. The McGrews celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary March 15.

Mrs. McGrew was born in Iowa City, Iowa, April 3, 1863 and went with her parents to Illinois when she was two years old. She attended the rural schools near Rinard, Ill., and was married near that town at the country home of her parents to McGrew March 15, 1885. They lived on a farm for three years with McGrew carrying on farm activities and teaching school.

They came west to Palouse, Wash., in October, 1888 and moved soon to Farmington where McGrew taught school. They then went to Genesee, Idaho. The McGrews engaged in business then sold and went to Kendrick to establish and operate a store and the family lived there until April 4, 1904 when the town was destroyed by fire.

The McGrews moved to Walla Walla that year and for four years operated a grocery business at 108 East Alder. Then December 9, 1908 the McGrews bought the H.L. Hines Mercantile company store at Prescott and operated it since.

Mrs. McGrew leaves her husband M.C. McGrew, Walla Walla; a son Merton McGrew, Walla Walla; and the following daughters: Mrs. C.M. (Joy) Fender, Coeur d'Alene; Mrs. A (Beulah) Hawman, Walla Walla; Mrs. A.E. (Veva) Ellis, Yakima; Mrs. W.M. (Portia) Barclay, Chehalis; Mrs. Joe (Twila) Ebbert , Tacoma. There are 16 grandchildren.

The funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from a local chapel with burial in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
