A Life Remembered ~ Albert A. Stickney

The following information was contributed by Carole Nurmi Cummings, wife of Martin Cummings, cousin to Albert A. Stickney.

When Albert A. Stickney was born on 1 February 1839, in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts, United States, his father, William Stickney, was 39 and his mother, Lucy Burgess, was 35.

He graduated from Harvard University in 1859 and from Harvard law schook in 1862.

During the Civil War, Mr. Stickney served as Lieutenant Colonel of the 47th Massachusetts Volunteers and was an aid on the staff of Major General Banks.

After the war, he began the practice of law. He was prominent in much of the important litigation in the early70s. In 1876 he entered into partnership with Edward Morse Shepard, the firm name being Stickney and Shepard.

He married Elizabeth Hart Weston on 20 September 1868, in Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 1 daughter.

He died on 4 May 1908, in Greenwich, Fairfield, Connecticut, United States from Bright's disease, at the age of 69, and was buried in Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, Rockland, New York, United States.
