The Shelby Record of June 23, 1905:
"Achilles Chinn, the father of Hector A. Chinn, who fifty years ago was Circuit Clerk here is one of Shelbyville's old citizens whose remains are buried in the old grave yard, near the public library. His grandson, a Confederate Veteran, was here last week having a curbing put around and making repairs to the lot where the grave is: He expressed much indignation at the condition of the old grave yard, and spoke in no complimentary terms of those who prevent the trustees of the library from beautifying the place."

Another grandson, Thomas Markus Chinn, son of Hector A. Chimn, visited the grave of his grandfather Achilles in 1925 and took a photo of the gravesite as it was then. The marker read Col. A. Chinn. Today, the stone has been smashed and only the curbing of his grave remains in good condition.
