Lt. Col. (ret.) John "Jack" Kingston, Jr., 72 of Tariffville, beloved husband of Jayne (Christian) Kingston, passed away at home on Wednesday, (December 22, 2010). Son of the late John and Ruth (Hopkinson) Kingston, Jack was born in Newton, MA on May 22, 1938. Jack received his Bachelors Degree from Texas A&M University in 1960, and a series of Masters Degrees through the US Army and University of Hartford. A veteran of the Korean conflict, Jack honorably served in the Army under his Texas A&M commission following his graduation, and then in the Army Reserve Corps, for a combined 26 years of service. He served as a public school mathematics teacher in Connecticut, with his last 30 years of service in West Hartford. Jack's love of God, country, family, and people was known to all who encountered him. He was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Tariffville, and of the Association of Former Students of Texas A&M. Jack counted among his passions a love of history and genealogy, and the Boston Red Sox, who he followed devotedly throughout his life, including his trip to St. Louis for the clinching game of the 2004 World Series. Among his many legacies, both the Sword & Spoon Foundation and SixSeeds (www.sixseeds.tv) were founded to advance Jack's love of all things good and true, and the founding of each were dedicated to Jack. Jack leaves three sons, John Kingston, III and his wife Jean of Winchester, MA, James Jason Kingston of Medford, MA, and Joel Christian Kingston and his wife Bridget of San Francisco, CA; a daughter-in-law, Helen Kingston of Winchester, MA; two sisters, Sally Baum and her husband Roy of Sturbridge, MA and Priscilla Rollins of Mashpee, MA; his grandchildren Caitlin, Annalise, Christopher, James, William, and Abigail; and many nieces and nephews. He resided in East Hampton before moving to Bloomfield, and has resided in Tariffville for the last 16 years.
