Georgianna "Anna" Andrews was born in Embden, Somerset County, Maine on 26 August 1850 -- the first born of a large family. She first appears in the 1860 U. S. Census, Omro, Winnebago County, Wisconsin, age 10, with her parents. A birth record has not been found, so this census helps establish her relationship to parents Webster G. & Cyrena Benjamin Andrews. She was a descendant of five Mayflower passengers through her mother and likely six.
Georgianna's father was a Civil War Veteran and grandfather Jonathan Andrews served in the Revolution.
Portrait & Biographical Record of Western Oregon states: "Her parents W. G. and Sarinna Benjamin Andrews were natives of Maine, where her father in early life engaged in lumbering and afterward turned his attention to farm pursuits. When she was two years of age the family moved to Wisconsin. Seven years later they went to Minnesota and settled in Mower County, where she grew to womanhood and remained until after her marriage."
She married Thomas McCormick of Mower County, Minnesota on 8 December 1868, in Prairie, Mower County. His biography contains a more detailed timeline of their movement West to Oregon and to Klamath County, Oregon in 1887. (Note: There are several different spellings for her mother's name Cyrena.)
Georgianna was a woman of many interests. Along with the usual chores of wife and mother of twelve children (two others (twins) died at birth in Kansas), she also helped raise at least two grandchildren. She kept a large scrapbook of articles and photos relating to her interest in music, politics, fashion, poets of the day, and other topics. She loved flowers and brought cuttings across the plains to grow in Oregon alongside her vegetable garden and in pots. Surprisingly, she also had an interest in rocks and, when time permitted, went camping with her husband on rock collecting excursions.
Georgianna "Anna" Andrews McCormick died 8 July 1930, and was buried in Keno Cemetery, Klamath County, Oregon beside her husband.
