THE FIRST CEMETERY PLOT IN HIGHLAND CEMETERY WAS PURCHASED BY J C ASHER

This Memorial is being added to record the first Cemetery plot sold in Highland Cemetery. A old Cemetery Burial Register and Plot Record found at Kinney-Underwood Funeral noted that the first plot (Sect 1) was sold to J C Asher in 1900.

J C Asher and family, including daughter Alice, were living in Jones County on the 1900 census dated July 28, 1900. Alice died three months later on Oct 16, 1900.

A copy of a deed to the Stamford Cemetery Association dated Oct 14, 1904 stated that J C Asher was one of the Trustees of the Association in 1904.

John C Asher family lived in Donley County in 1910.

John & Jane Asher were in Swisher County in 1920.

Mary Jane Asher died in 1929 in Plainview in 1929.

I believe Alice was first buried in Stamford and later moved to the Plainview Cemetery in Hale Co., Texas after her mother died.

Daughter of John Carr Asher and Mary Jane Weaver is now buried in the Plainview Cemetery.
