He was a Prisoner of War for eleven months in Germany and completed his services in May 1946. As a Rifleman 745 he was awarded a World War II Victory Ribbon by Harry S. Truman. In May 1950 Bill enlisted in the Reserve Air Force at Tinker's 323rd Boomer Squadron where he became a Corporal until he was Honorably Discharged in April 1951. After serving, Bill stayed on at Tinker as a Civil Service member for 21 more years. Bill had a great reputation for being able to fix and run any type of heavy equipment. So it was a natural fit for him to finish his career running and fixing construction equipment all over Oklahoma. As an athlete, he played Minor League Baseball in St. Louis, raced Stock Cars and bowled in national tournaments for many years. He loved his old Country Music, playing the harmonica, the outdoors, fishing, gardening and bowling but most of all he enjoyed passing on his knowledge to his family. Bill can be viewed Thursday 8am-5pm at Ford Funeral Home in Midwest City. Funeral Service will be 10 A.M. Friday, August 12, at Soldier Creek Baptist Church in Midwest City with burial at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
