S/Sgt. George Victor Whalen, Jr. of Orangeburg and formerly of Cornwall-on-Hudson, entered into rest on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Nyack Hospital. He was 91.

The son of the late George and Anne Whalen he was born on December 22, 1920 in Yonkers, NY.

George was a WWII Veteran who served 20 years in the military. He was a recipient of numerous medals including the Purple Heart and the WWII Victory Medal. After retiring from the military he worked for 20 yrs. at the US Mint at West Point, for a total of 40 yrs. service to the United States government.

Survivors include his wife Bella, at home; his son George Whalen and his wife Laureen of Nanuet, NY; six grandchildren: Meghan, Kristen, Michael and Richard Whalen, and Melissa and Richard Zodikoff; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sons Richard Whalen and Paul Whalen.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 3, from 6-9pm at James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Avenue A, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 4 at 12 noon at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, 340 Hudson St., Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
