He was born on February 9, 1930 in Manitowoc, son of the late Joseph and Mathilda (Burry) Wier. Alvin was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1948. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in Germany from 1951 to 1953. On November 28, 1953 he married the former Lois Stelzer at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Alvin was employed at Mirro Aluminum Company and Manitowoc Shipbuilding, retiring in 1992. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and a charter member of AmVets Post #99. Alvin participated in numerous sports in his younger years, remaining an avid sports fan, especially the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years: Lois Wier, Manitowoc; three sons and daughters-in-law: Thomas Wier, Manitowoc, Michael & Debra Wier, Sheboygan, Daniel & Lynn Wier, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law: Kay & Peter Klein, Manitowoc; eight grandchildren: Stacie (Jerry) Traurig, Christopher (Sara) Wier, Jenna Jankowski, Brandon (Andrea) Wier, Kyle & Nicholas Wier, Kaitlyn (Christopher) Strauss; three step grandsons: David Klein & special friend Kassondra, Donald (Heather) Klein, Nathan (Jessica) Klein; seven great grandchildren: Emmalee, Gavin, Grant, Grady, Owen, Stella, Liam & Lincoln; and six step great grandchildren: Samantha, Charlotte, Rhiya, Salem, Payton & Hailey. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Joseph & Mathilda (Burry) Wier; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Karl & Josephine Stelzer; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Chester Wier, Marvin & Eunice Wier; and four sisters and brothers-in-law: Grace & Norman Robinson, Florence & Albin Geigel, Dorothy & Norman Brandt and Ruth & John Nuhs.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall (1114 South 21st Street) Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. David Beaudry with entombment at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc.
