CENOTAPH
Alma M. Pass Cain Farnham was the daughter of Col. William Norwood Pass, according to some family trees, while others say she was the daughter of his brother Col. Algernon Sydney Pass and first wife Rebecca Crowder although she and her brother Col. Lewis Norwood Pass went to live with Judge James Carter Longstreet and wife Molly Ragsdale Pass Longstreet on South Main Street when their father Col. Algernon Pass remarried. Molly Ragsdale Pass Longstreet was first married to Col. A.G. Pass's son (their older brother) William S. Pass according to some family trees, while others say she was first married to Col. L.N. Pass. The marriage record does say William S. Pass.

New Orleans TIMES DEMOCRAT, July 22, 1900, p.18:
"Miss Alma Pass of Grenada graced our social circles with her sunny presence the past week."

Alma M. Pass married Feb. 14, 1901 Sam M. Cain and after his death married Lant Clayton Farnum.
She was still called "Miss Alma" and known to many as Miss Alma Pass for most of her life, even after she was Mrs. Cain.

Name: Alma Farnham
SSN: 427-92-1386
Last Residence: 38901 Grenada, Grenada, Mississippi, USA
BORN: 13 Jul 1882
Died: Jan 1971
State (Year) SSN issued: Mississippi (1962)

From Nina Wheeler: She and her second husband Lant C. Farnham are buried in
Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis.

Miss Alma Pass left $2 million to All Saints Episcopal Parish which used it to add a large wing onto the church and to turn the old Grenada College building into a nursing home. It was decided (by the builders/contractors) that the historical antebellum college building was "too expensive to preserve," maintain and restore, so it was demolished and a modern building of inferior architecture (and of course no history) replaced it, which would have grieved Miss Alma immensely to see her generous bequest appropriated and squandered by modern thieves and vandals as so often occurs.
