Mildred O’Nell “Tookie” Gentry, 89, passed away July 28, 2016, at her home surround by her loving family. She was born November 27, 1926 in Quincy, FL and raised in Blountstown and Bristol, FL, Tookie has lived in Bristol, most of her life. The second daughter born to Parley Sunshine Shuler and Mattie LaVania Howell, she had a passion for life and loved to entertain. At a young age she learned to tap dance and often spoke of the times she performed for influential people. She was a talented woman and pursued many of her interests. She was a tap dancer, beautician, gardener, chef, mentor, advisor, home builder, homemaker, genealogist, scholar, composer, poet, and artist. Among all her accomplishments, she most valued being a wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Most notably, Tookie is known for her marriage to Paul Murphy Gentry, her 13 children, her large home, her artistic abilities and her membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Faith, family and family values were the driving forces in her life. As a life long member of the Church, she loved to study and teach the gospel. She is known by many and loved by all.
She is survived by her children: Gayle Grissett (Roy) of Tallahassee; Glynis Gentry of Bristol; Geoffrey Gentry (Carolyn) of Mt. Airy, NC; Gretta Jensen (Monte) of Salt Lake City, UT; Gina Snyder of Tallahassee; Gretchen Dees (David) of Lynn Haven; Gyll Moore (Glenn) of Hosford; Gwynn McCoy (Ray) of Bristol; Glade Gentry (Cherise) of Declo, ID; and Gary Gentry (Carole) of Tallahassee. Two sisters: Pat Gause of Lehi, UT; and Becky Shuler of Crawfordville. One sister-in-law; Minnie Shuler of Bristol. In addition she is survived by 46 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death in 2007, by her husband Paul Murphy Gentry; three sons, Paul Gentry, Jr., Gregory Gentry and Grant Gentry; two sisters, Benice Shuler and Jean Davis; two brothers, Jerry Shuler and David Shuler.
The family will receive friends, Monday, August 1, 2016 form 10:00 until 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Bristol, FL. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the church and the interment will be held at the Gregory Neil Gentry Cemetery. Todd Wahlquist with Bevis Funeral Home is assisting the family with their arrangements.
