Eva "Fern" Carpenter Schmidt, 92 of Seward, passed away July 22, 2016.
Fern was born May 24, 1924, near Bradshaw. She graduate of Anselmo High School 1941.
Fern married to Floyd Carpenter in 1944 and lived in Broken Bow for several years. She worked for Becton-Dickinson for 18 years. Later they moved to Lamar, Colo., where she and Floyd owned a Coast-to-Coast Hardware Store. From there she moved Hereford, Texas and most recently to Seward.
Fern Married to Clarence Schmidt in 2000.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd Carpenter, Sr.; son, Floyd Carpenter, Jr.; daughter, Patricia Stephens, husband, Clarence Schmidt; sisters, Florence Ritchie, Edna Blakeman, and Bertha Wooters; brother, Wade VanOstrand; and step-son, Wallace Schmidt.
Survivors include, her daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Terry Miller of Seward; grandchildren, Merry Carpenter of Maryland, Sara (Moses) Horner of Fort Collins, Colo., Christopher (Debra) Stephens of Amarillo, Texas, Daniel (Tracy) Miller of rural Malvern, Iowa, and Lori (Mark) Merritt of Grand Island; 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by step-children, Roger and Nancy Schmidt of Greensboro, N.C., and Susan Schmidt of St. Paul, Minn.
Funeral services were at Zabka Funeral Home, Seward with Pastor Galen Skinner officiating.
Private burial will be in Hereford, Texas
