Oldest Member of Local Church Dies in Winnsboro
Mrs. Matilda Johnson, said to be the oldest member of the First Baptist Church, Bastrop, died on Tuesday at the home of her daughter in Winnsboro.
Born in Sweden, Mrs. Johnson came to Morehouse Parish more than 60 years ago. Prior to her marriage to the late Pete Johnson, she was Miss Matilda Lunenberg. They were married 50 years before his death.
Funeral services were held by the Rev. H. M. Bennett, pastor of the First Baptist Church, at the Old Bertholomew Church with interment following in the historic cemetery of the church Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
