Obadiah Stiner Brown, the son of Joab G and Alice Elsa (Starner) Brown,a pioneer resident of Linn County was born in the state of Ohio sixty-nine years ago. He came to Iowa and then to Missouri with his parents, Joab G. and Alice Elsa (Starner) Brown, before the Civil War and settled on a farm north of Bucklin, and resided in that immediate neighborbood until his death. Forty-eight years ago he was united in marriage June 6, 1867 with Miss Rhoda Souther of Ethel, MO, who with two children, James Arthur Brown and Mrs (Media) James S. Lane survive. Two children, Elbert and Harold Tracy preceded their father in death. At the age of 29, Obadiah professed faith in Christ and united with the Pleasant Grove Baptist church and remained a faithful member till his death. Rev J. W. Alexander conducted the funeral services. (I think his middle name should be spelled "Starner" although the family pronounced it Stiner. His little daughter wrote, "My father's name is Obadiah Stiner Brown" The bit of paper was saved in the family's picture box. I am guessing the daughter was Minnie who died at 8 yrs.)
