Mervin E. Goodling, 95, of Mifflintown, entered into rest on Friday, July 15, 2016, at his home.
He was born on Sept. 14, 1920, in Oriental, the son of the late Calvin Edwin and Mae S. (Frymoyer) Goodling. On July 27, 1940, he married the former Geraldine Mae Kratzer, who preceded him on May 21, 2011. Her passing broke a loving marital union of 70 years.
Mervin was a self-employed truck driver operating in 38 states for 60 years and logging six million miles. Upon semi-retiring from trucking he delivered cars for local dealerships officially retiring at the age of 87.
He was a member of the Richfield Mennonite Church for many years. Mervin enjoyed traveling, hunting, and fishing in Canada. He loved going to area restaurants with family and friends. Most of all he loved attending sporting events of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta J. and Richard Grovatt, of Southampton, N.J. and Colleen M. and Jerry Frontz, of McAlisterville; four grandchildren, Heidi L. Krihak and husband Paul, Heather J. Xenakis and husband Tom, Corey L. Frontz and wife Nicole, and Justin L. Frontz and wife Katelyn; five great-grandchildren, Jana, Will, Madison, Alexea, and Dakota; one sister, Ida Seig; three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Katie Goodling, Carol Kratzer and Kay and Elwood "Skip" Kratzer; and many nieces and nephews.
Mervin was preceded in death by three brothers, Lee Goodling, Allen Goodling, and Ernie Goodling; and his sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Albert Barner.
Friends and family are invited to the viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, and again on Tuesday, July 19, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., all from the Richfield Life Ministries Church (formerly the Richfield Mennonite Church), 167 Church St., Richfield. Officiating will be Pastor Aaron Benner and Pastor Joel Snyder.
Burial will be in the Richfield Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in loving memory of Mervin to Samaritans Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
The George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills has been entrusted with the arrangements.
