Allen Ray Goodling, 95, entered into rest on Friday, May 10, 2013, at the SUN Home Hospice Center, Sunbury.

Allen was born on Feb. 7, 1918, in Oriental, Juniata County, a son of the late Calvin E. and Villa Mae (Frymoyer) Goodling. On March 6, 1942, he married the former Katie E. Arnold, who survives. His passing breaks a loving marital union of 71 years.

He attended Laurel Hill grammar schoolhouse, Richfield. Allen was an Army veteran of World War II. Following his service to our country, he was employed with Shaffer's Garage, near Aline and retired after 35 years of service from the Pennsylvania Railroad.

He was a member of Dressler's Ridge United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant Mills, where he served as a trustee, treasurer, and chairman of the cemetery association. He and his wife were instrumental with the leadership roll to construct the fellowship building. Allen also was a member of the Liverpool Fire Company and the Liverpool EMS.

He was an avid hunter, especially fox hunting, fishing in Canada, gardening, traveling and was able to visit 49 states. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his four children and their spouses, Charles "Giff" and Donna Arnold, of Selinsgrove, Annamae and Ralph Kerstetter, of Mount Pleasant Mills, Nancy and Darvin Price, of McAlisterville, and Sandra and Larry Kerstetter, of Millerstown; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Todd M. and Carolyn Arnold, Steven and Robin Kerstetter, Shari and Todd Dressler, Jeffrey and Carey Inch, Anita and Michael Schrader, Anna Marie and Kevin Sassaman, Brian and Pamela Kerstetter, and Susan and Joseph Jones; 22 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ida Seig, of Goldsboro; one brother, Mervin Goodling, of Mifflintown, and nieces and nephews.

Allen was preceded by two brothers, Lee Goodling and Ernest Goodling; and one sister, Pauline Barner.

Friends and family are invited to the viewing from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the family present beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 at Dressler's Ridge United Methodist Church, 4180 Dressler Ridge Road, Mount Pleasant Mills. Officiating will be Pastor Andrew A. Bucke and sharing the eulogy will be Pastor Jerry Miller. Burial with full military rites accorded by the American Legion Victory Post 25, Selinsgrove and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6631 will be made in the adjoining church cemetery.
