Tommy and Patricia are both Christians and worshiped at Sugar Hill United Methodist Church. He, like his father, was a Mason in Good Standing for 50+ years. He also proudly served his country as a Machinist Mate 2nd Class, in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific and in the Korean War.
Tommy received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Botany, from Louisiana Tech University-Ruston, Louisiana.
In 1970, he and his family moved to Texarkana from Lafayette, Louisiana. His hobbies included wood carving, gardening, cooking and being the World’s Greatest Grandpa, or Big T as he was lovingly called by his grandchildren. He was also instrumental in helping plant the crepe myrtles lining Stateline Avenue and Interstate-30.
During his years with the United Way, in both Lafayette and Texarkana, Tommy came to know a great number of people. He was a member of the Texarkana Kiwanis and several times sold the most tickets to their Annual Pancake Breakfast. He was a member of the Toastmasters. He was also a Master Gardener and always had a home garden, until his later years. He was a realtor. He was pretty awesome as a wood carver too.
Tommy, with the help of his wife and the good Lord, could do anything he set his mind to.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann of 66 years, Stanley and Darlene Adams of Broussard, Louisiana, Janet and Larry Brewer of Genoa, Arkansas, Donna and Ric Abernathy of Texarkana, Arkansas and David Adams of Texarkana, Arkansas, as well as nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Debra Daniel and grandson Christopher Brewer.
Tommy will be laid to rest at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 15 at Greenwood Cemetery in Ruston, Louisiana. Burial is under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas.
