Born in Lenoir, NC, Dorothy (Dot) was a graduate of Happy Valley High School in Patterson, NC, where she was Valedictorian, and a graduate of Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, NC with a major in English.
As a member of Broadway Baptist Church for approximately 70 years, Dot cooked and served on the kitchen committee for approximately 50 years, was a Sunday School Teacher, a Mission Leader, and served as a Deacon.
She has often been described as "sharp as a tack" by those who knew her.
She had a quick wit, was an avid reader, loved to do crossword puzzles and word jumbles, and especially enjoyed watching her birds and the parade of other wildlife outside her patio door.
A beloved Mother of five, Dot was preceded in death by her parents: Rufus E. Robbins and Pearl Powell Robbins, Sisters: Lorena Robbins McGinnis, Verolee Robbins Greene, Gladys Suddreth Whitener, and Norma Robbins Cozart; Brothers Atwell Suddreth, Ronda Robbins, and Wayne Robbins; her husband of 63 years, Jack D. Bounds; her son Mark Bounds, and her son-in-law Richard W. Phelps, Jr.
Dot is survived by her children Jacquelyn Roach (Ray), Duane Bounds (Ellen Murphey), Sylvia Phelps, and Timothy Bounds (Charlotte Hughes); Daughter-in-Law Susan Stewart (Court Walters); Grandchildren Kara R. Davis (John), Karma R. Scardino (Mark), Ashleigh R. Lucas (Ryan), Alecia P. Durocher (Mike), Rick Phelps (Amy), and Michael Phelps (Rachel); 16 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Broadway Baptist Church, 815 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917, with a Celebration of Life Service immediately following, the Reverend Timothy Turley officiating .
Family and friends will meet on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 1:45 pm at Highland Memorial Cemetery for a 2:00 pm interment.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Broadway Baptist Church, 815 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917 or the charity of your choice.
Dot's children would like to thank her treasured neighbour, Arlene Olinger, for her loving and faithful friendship to Dot over the years.
