Funeral services for Sidney Rogers Barnett, age 92, of Oak Grove, Louisiana will be 10AM, Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove with Rev. Carlos Trapp and Rev. Kenny Herring officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Grove City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5PM - 7PM at the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Juanita Credell Barnett; parents, Walter Amis Barnett and Julia Clara Berry Barnett; sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine Barnett Monroe and H. T. Monroe.

He was a life long member of First Baptist Church in Oak Grove. He was baptized in 1936. He attended Oak Grove High School where he was a member of the boxing team. He graduated in 1940. He was a brick mason for 43 years, and was an expert hunter and fisherman. He was an avid Oak Grove Tiger Football fan. Mr. Barnett was a combat veteran of WWII. He was a member of the 83rd Infantry Division, 330 Infantry Regiment, Headquarters Intelligence and Reconnaissance Platoon. He fought in 5 battle campaigns: Normandy, Brittany, The Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), Rhineland, and Central Europe. He spent 290 days in combat and was awarded numerous citations, including the Bronze Star, and was recently awarded the French Legion of Honor award by the French Consul General. He was a member of the Oak Grove Lodge #284 F & AM.

Sidney is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Mark Barnett and Jamie Barnett of Oak Grove, Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law, Manda Barnett Lieb and Charlie Lieb of Monroe, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Nick Barnett and wife Crystal of Oak Grove, Louisiana, Wes Barnett and wife Kim of Houston, Texas, Carley Barnett Tubbs and husband Blake of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Bonnie Lieb Leggett and husband Chad of Monroe, Louisiana, Julianna Lieb of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; 9 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Paulette Barnett of Oak Grove, Louisiana.

Pallbearers will be Nick Barnett, Wes Barnett, Chad Leggett, Blake Tubbs, Garrett Barnett, Walter Barnett.

Honorary pallbearers will be Phillip Brown, Johnny Smith, Ronald Bedenbender, Herman Monroe, John Philley.
