Dec. 29, 1921 - Jan. 24, 2016 Family and friends celebrate the 94 wonderful years of Rick's life. He was born in Millport, AL, on Dec. 29, 1921, and was a graduate of Millport High School. Not only was Rick a letterman in three sports, but he was also inducted into the Millport Sports Hall of Fame. Rick joined the United States Army in 1942 and was in five major campaigns under the command of General George Patton. After returning home, he was hired by Alabama Power in Birmingham, AL, where he was employed for 40 years. Rick was an avid sportsman, and upon his retirement, he spent his leisure time fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed visiting Lamar County with family and friends. Rick spent many hours teaching his grandchildren about hunting and fishing and passed on his love of nature to them. Rick leaves behind his devoted wife of 67 years, Bobbie Morris; two beautiful daughters, Micki Powell (Louis) and Bonnie Morello (Charles); three grandchildren, Trey Powell (Tammi), Tyler Powell (Leah), and Laura Harris (Bradley); three great-grandsons, Adam Powell, Conner Powell, and Madison Powell; brother, Clay E. Morris (Jeraldine); sister-in-law, Clara Morris; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Rick will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ashley Powell, who is considered the family's little angel. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, from 6-8 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at 2 PM with interment to follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens South. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Bill Nichols State Veterans Home in Alexander City, AL, or another charity.
