South Carolina Man Shot at Murrell's Inlet
Georgetown, S.C.
C.W. Davis, 42, was shot and killed yesterday as he lay in bed at his Murrell's Inlet home and Georgetown Sheriff Garris Cribb said he is holding Mrs. Davis and Carl Hewett, 40, in connection to with the case.
Cribb said Hewett, a next door neighbor of the Davises, attempted suicide after Davis was killed. He is in the hospital here with a gunshot wound to the stomach.
At an inquest the coroner's jury held that Davis was shot by his wife & Hewett. The jury recommended the pair be held for grand jury action.
Cribb said Davis & Hewett each blamed each other.
Davis, a lumber company employee here, was a native of White Oak, N.C. He kad logged in both North and South Carolina.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons and two daughters by a former marriage; mother, Mrs. Mary Davis of Selma, N.C.; three brothers, W.A. Davis of Fayetteville, N.C., J.C. Davis of Norfolk, Va. and D.C. Davis of Richmond, Va.; and a sister, Mrs. Ray Lewis of Elizabethtown, N.C.
