The youngest son of Mordecai Redd Broaddus Jr. and Sarah Ann Miller Broaddus was a farmer. On 10 July 1862 the twenty year old was discharged from Company B of the 30th Regiment of Virginia Infantry. He enlisted with Company B of the Ninth Virginia Cavalry on 15 March 1863. He was paroled at Appomattox. In 1885 he was operating a sawmill in Hanover County.
