DEATH CALLS TWO WELL KNOWN GRUNDY CITIZENS …

Jonathan Wilhelm, a son of Phillip and Rachel Wilhelm, was born in Alleghaney [Allegany] county, Md., April, 14, 1837. He was one of a family of eight [eleven] children of whom one brother and four sisters are still living.

In the year 1851, at about the age of 15, Mr. Wilhelm came away, with his father's family, from the old home in the east, locating in Lee county, Ill.

In the year 1870 at Dixon, Ill., he was united in marriage with Adeline Marteeny, who passed away but two months and fifteen days before her husband.

It was in the year 1880 that Mr. Wilhelm removed with his family to Grundy county, Iowa, where he has resided ever since, living on the farm southwest of Grundy Center, until about five years ago, when he came to town.

Mr. Wilhelm has been quite infirm the past year or more and kept gradually declining in health, until more serious complications developed about a week ago, from the effects of which he died last Sunday morning June 14, 1914.

He leaves, as members of his immediate family, three children, Chas. W., Harry N., and Mrs. Maud E Boyd, and also six grandchildren.

Mr. Wilhelm joined the Lutheran church in Illinois in his early life. For many years after his removal to Iowa he was a member of the Reformed church and during the past 5 years has been a member of the local Presbyterian church. He has been a devoted, faithful Christian. His life has been exemplary. Cordial and kind in spirit he has enjoyed the friendship of all who have learn to know him, and his presence will be missed not only by the members of his family, but by many also in the community in which he has lived.

The funeral service was held from the Presbyterian church. Tuesday afternoon, June 16, 1914, Rev. L. P. Krome officiating, and the remains were laid to rest beside his wife in the cemetery west of town.
