He was born in Folk, MO to Bernard Martin and Elizabeth "Betty" Schoenauer Bax. He was married on May 24, 1944 in Osage Bend to Irene Marie Schmidt. She died February 24, 2002.
He owned and operated a farm for many years in Osage Bend. He was also a feed salesman and cabinet maker for several years.
Survivors include three daughers, Elaine K. Brandt, Chamois; Janice M. Groner, St. Thomas; and Carolyn E. Bax, Osage Bend; two sons, Kenneth J. Bax and Glenn E. Bax, both of Osage Bend; ten grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Hilda Libbert, Eugene and Mary Jane Frank, Linn.

He was a member of the St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church, Osage Bend; Osage River Flood Control Association;and the Over-Fifty Club.

Memorials are suggested to St. Margaret of Antioch Catholic Church, 12025 Route W. Jefferson City, MO 65101; or a charity of the donor's choice.
