MOUNTAIN VIEW
Moses Thornton, 80, of 182 Farley St., was killed today when the suction of a passing commuter train pulled him under its wheels.
Fred Johansen, the train's fireman, said Thornton crossed in front of the train near the Rengstroff St. Crossing and made it to the other side but was pulled back by the wind of a passing train,
Thornton was on his way to the bus depot to board a bus for Washington.

Moses Edgar Thornton
Moses Edgar Thornton, 80, Mountain View resident, passed away in Mountain View Friday morning following a train accident. He was born May 12, 1876, in Kansas, and came to Washington in 1900. He had resided in Humboldt County since 1929, until moving to Mountain View 7 years ago. He was a retired logger, and was a member of the Fortuna Townsend Club. He is survived by the following sons and daughters, Leslie Thornton, South Bend, Washington, Gilbert Thornton, Sacramento, Merle Thornton, Myers Flat, Mrs. Vina Smith, Seattle, Washington, Mrs. Inez Lowrey, Myers Flat, Mrs. Evelyn Bjorndahl of Montesano, Washington, Miss Eva Thornton, Arcata; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Frank Thornton of Myers Flat, and a sister, Mrs. Matilda Puccetti, Mountain View; and numerous nieces and nephews, most of who reside in this area.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary, with Reverend W. Roy Frymire officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Eureka.
