He resided in Washington for several years before coming to California in 1911. Thornton had been a resident of Myers Flat for the past 35 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Fortuna and a charter member of the Fortuna Townsend Club.
Survivors include sons Verne Thornton, Westhaven, and Keith Thornton, San Francisco; daughters Mrs. Elizabeth Shreeve and Mrs. Nita Hulbert, both of Fortuna; sister, Mrs. Matilda Puccetti, Mountain View; 11 grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the chapel of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary. The Rev. Enos Nelson, pastor of the Fortuna Christian Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
