Joan Vogel, 76, White Bear Lake, died July 9, 2009, at United Hospital in St. Paul.

Funeral services were held July 13, 2009, at 1 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples with Fr. Scott Wittkop officiating. Interment was at St. Isidore's Catholic Cemetery in Moran Township, Todd County.

Joan was born on March 24, 1933, in St. Paul to John and Frances (Sobota) Adamietz. She grew up in rural Staples where she attended country school. After she completed her schooling, she worked on the family farm and as a waitress in a local restaurant.

On April 15, 1952, Joan married Leo Vogel. They moved to Fairbanks, Alaska. In 1957, they moved back to Minnesota and lived in Pillager.

Joan attended nursing school in 1977. After her graduation, she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at several hospitals and nursing homes. She worked at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis for 11 years until she retired.

After her retirement, Joan moved back to Moran Township until 2004, when she moved to White Bear Lake.

She was a very caring and fun loving person. She was loyal to the Catholic church, loved country music, bingo and going to casinos with friends and family. Joan enjoyed fishing, spending time with family.

Joan is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Lowden, White Bear Lake; one son, Douglas (Jackie) Vogel, Motley, three sisters, Mary Anne Collin, Helen Jares and Caroline Macho and three grandchildren.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Stephen; four brothers, John, Steve, Tony, Frank; and two sisters, Barb and Angela.
