Leland Alexander, 79, formerly of 503 North 3rd Street, died early Thursday morning, October 19th, at the Grandview Heights Care Center where he has resided since April of this year. Born on October 5th, 1927, in Rhodes, Iowa, he was the son of Hugh and Edith (Freland) Alexander. The family lived in the Rhodes area for many years and Leland graduated from the Rhodes Consolidated High School in 1945. On January 6th, 1946, he enlisted in the United States Army and served our country proudly until receiving his honorable discharge in March of 1947. On December 4th, 1953, he was united in marriage to Donna M. Braack in Marshalltown, Iowa. They have resided in Marshalltown all of their married lives where he was employed an independent insurance adjuster and inspector from 1981 as Alexander Claims Services. Leland also worked for Allied Insurance from 1963 to 1981, Pat Manning Chevrolet for nine years, Kinney Shoes for five and Wal-Mart in the shoe department. Left to mourn his loss is his children: Jeffrey of Des Moines, Mark (Mary) of Marshalltown and Randy (Bethany) of Andover, MN. his brother Mike Alexander in Rhodes and Robert in Arizona and sister Lela Long in Creston, Iowa. In death, he has rejoined his parents, his beloved wife, Donna who died March 2nd, of this year, his brother, John and his sister, Alice.
