Peggy Anne Wessells, 84, passed away on November 29, 2021 at her home in Rue, Virginia.
She was the daughter of the late Warner Ames Johnson and Janie Beatrice (Thomas) Johnson and was born on April 16, 1937 in Southside Chesconessex, Va. She was married to Reginald Thomas Wessells, Sr., who predeceased her June 30, 2002, after 47 years of marriage.
Peggy graduated from Onancock High School. She entered her career shortly after her marriage at the R&G Shirt Factory, where she made many lifelong friends and worked her way up to Floor Supervisor. She retired in 1999 to care for her sick husband. She was a member of the Faith Assembly of God Church in Leemont, where she was a Sunday school teacher.
Later in life Peggy loved to travel and stayed, at least 1 night, in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, seven of the 10 Canadian Provinces, Bermuda and Mexico.
She was a wonderful mother to two children and is survived by both, Reginald Thomas Wessells, Jr. of Parksley, VA and Regina Anne (Wessells) Howard of Fort Payne, Alabama.
She was the second eldest of eight siblings. She is survived by two sisters, Linda Jean Jackson and Anita Lynn Smith. She was predeceased by Shirley Ruth Adkins, Dorothy Virginia Rowley, Janie Marie Fitchett, Barry Thomas Johnson and Betty Darlene Saunders.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, Crowell Alexander Pate IV (Alex), Regina Anne Headrick, Carrie Elizabeth Pate and Andrew Thomas Pate; and four great grandchildren, Isabella Hope Pate, Kinsley Nicole Pate, Asher Thomas Pate and Henry Wyatt Headrick.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM from the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley with Rev. John Burr officiating. Interment will follow in the Parksley Cemetery in Parksley.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7-8PM from the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
