S. L. Vaughan, 77, a correctional officer at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary for 20 years, died Monday in a McAlester hospital. He also was a retired farmer. His home was at 64 West Chestnut. Vaughan was born Feb. 17, 1901 at Ulan and lived all of his life in this area. He was a member of the Oklahoma Peace Officers Association. He was married to Lillian Auston in 1922. Survivors are the wife, five daughters, Mrs. Everett Lytle, Mrs. Johnnie Chellberg and Mrs. John E. Sitter, McAlester, Mrs. Tom Campbell Jr., Moore and Mrs. Laverl Schofield, Ardmore; two sons, Lindy Vaughan, Springdale, Ark., and Donald G. Vaughan, Tulsa; a sister, Mrs. Tony White, Arpelar; a brother, Dewey Vaughan, McAlester; 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were set for this afternoon in the chapel of the Mills Funeral Home. Rev. Earl Jenson was to officiate and burial was to follow in the Ulan Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Roberts, Junior Vaughan, Harold Vaughan, Bobby Vaughtn, J. L. White, Don White and Larry Rowell. Honorary pallbearers were C. D. Epps, Tony White, Bill Auston, Charlie Clifton, Floyd Baker and William Ross.
