Mr. Aldridge Hightower, 89, of Peoria, IL passed away peacefully, with his wife by his side, at 11:30 pm, Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Heartland Health Care Center.
Aldridge was born April 25, 1927 in Tucker, AR to Frank and Gertrude (Giles) Hightower. He was baptized at Clear Lake Baptist Church in England, Arkansas under the leadership of Pastor L. P. Patrick. Aldridge’s older brother, Frank, moved to Peoria, Illinois, so in 1943 Aldridge and the rest of the Hightower family followed. He married James Anna Petty on June 26, 1949 in Peoria and to that union three children were born, Genevieve, Carolyn and Aldridge, Jr.
Aldridge had a strong work ethic. He retired from Keystone Steel & Wire in 1988 after 31 years of service. While working at Keystone, he worked part time at Szolds for over 33 years. Aldridge was a phenomenal athlete and pool player. He played softball around local communities and had played pool with Minnesota Fats. He loved to hunt, fish and travel with his family. He was a faithful member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church since 1963.
Aldridge leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving wife of 66 years, James Anna Hightower; two daughters, Genevieve (James) Howard and Carolyn (James “JB”) Little and one son, Aldridge, Jr. (Charlotte Sykes) Hightower of Chevy Chase, MD; three grandchildren, Tonya (Jeremy) Simpson, Kevin McGee and Jamold Little; seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Alice Robinson, Verdie Hanson and Genora Hendricks and five brothers, George Hightower, James Hightower, Frank Hightower, The Rev. Calvin Hightower and Willie Hightower.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Friday, June 10, 2016 at New Morning Star M. B. Church with a visitation beginning at 10 am. Pastor Cleveland Thomas, Sr., will officiate. Aldridge will be laid to rest at Historic Springdale Cemetery. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at simonsmortuary.com.
