Harry Davis “Dave” Brown passed away on June 4, 2016 after a short illness. Mr. Brown was born in Memphis, TN on April 15, 1925. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nelis Davis Brown and Willie Frances Buckley Brown.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 63 years, Avis Ann Allen Brown. He is also survived by his daughters, Frances Brown Fortner (Don) and Rebecca “Becky” Brown Craft (Buddy). He leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Fortner, Leigh Ann Fortner Steele (Frank), Anna Fortner, Jacob Craft (Kelcie) and Rachel Craft, and a step-grandson, Nathan Craft (Britney). He also leaves behind 3 great-grandchildren, Noelle Steele, Anderson Steele and Whitten Steele, as well as 2 step-great-grandchildren, Brianna Craft and Nolin Craft.
He was a graduate of Whitehaven High School. After high school graduation he entered the U.S. Army and served in WW2. Upon discharge he was a long time member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served for many years as the director of the Drum and Bugle Corps for American Legion Post #1.
Mr. Brown had a long career in the transportation industry in sales. He retired from Humboldt Express as the city sales manager. In addition, for years he was a bi-vocational music minister. He served as the music director at LaBelle Place Baptist Church for almost two decades, then later at Trinity Baptist Church of Southaven.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 12, 2016 from 1:30pm – 3:00pm followed by the funeral service at 3:00pm, all at LaBelle Haven Baptist Church, 4800 Hwy 305 N., Olive Branch, MS. Burial will follow on Monday, 6/13/16 at West TN Veterans Cemetery. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Forever Young Senior Veterans, an organization that honors WWII veterans, at PO Box 1381, Collierville, TN 38027, or to the LaBelle Haven Baptist Church Building Fund at 4800 Hwy 305 N., Olive Branch, MS 38654
