Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Dayton. Burial will be at Christ the King Catholic Cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be at Carson Funeral Home in Dayton on Sunday Sept. 24, 2006, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., with a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M., conducted by Sister Mary Lois Lehmann.
Corinne Frances Bowen was born on February 13, 1911, in Baldwin, Wis., the daughter of Paul and Marietta (Ripley) Bowen. She graduated from the Kasson, Minn. High School in June of 1928. She then entered St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing, graduating on March 1, 1933. Corinne was united in marriage to Merrill Schlief on May 6, 1933, in Rochester, Minn. While Merrill was employed by General Mills the couple lived in West Concord and Owatonna, Minn. and Ottumwa, Fort Dodge and Otho, Iowa. In 1952, they moved to Dayton. Merrill passed away on January 16, 1994. Corinne moved to Grandview Health Care Center in December of 2004.
Survivors include four sons, Jim and his wife Lois Schlief of Des Moines, Jack and his wife Roma Schlief of Dayton, Clarence and his wife Kathy Schlief of Lehigh, and Carroll Schlief and friend Kathy Stewart of Dayton; two daughters, Mary and her husband Melvin Horn of Des Moines, and Joan and her husband David Johnson of Garden City, Kan.; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Frances Bowen of Fort Dodge. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merrill Schlief; a brother, Jack Bowen; one great grandson, Adam Oliver; and one great granddaughter, Cadence Schlief.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
