Mae and Larry moved to Wilmont where Larry worked for his Uncle in the insurance business. Mae worked at the Catholic School as a cook for many years. In 1969 Mae and Larry moved to Worthington and purchased a home there. Mae worked at Sather's in Round Lake for several years and then worked at the Wolf Store in Worthington and at a Gift store in Worthington. After Larry retired they moved to the Knollwood Apts. Larry passed away in 2001 and she continued to live at the apartments until 2008 when she moved to the Meadows in Worthington. Mae and Larry were married for 55 years.
What brought Mae the most joy was to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She really enjoyed bowling while living in Wilmont and when she bowled her high game ever of 267 she thought she mastered the art of bowling. Mae was a very avid Minnesota Twins fan. Mae enjoyed playing cards especially pinnacle and 500. Mae died Saturday, June 21, 2014, at the Meadows.
Mae is lovingly remembered by her four children, 10 Grandchildren, and 22 Great Grandchildren. She is survived by her brother and brother in law.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry, her son Steve, her son in-law Kenny Tomek Sr, her sisters and their husbands, Lorraine and Francis Broich, Esther and Ed Roemeling, her brother Lawrence Schartz who died in World War II, her sister in-laws Doris Leary and Mary Schartz.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 24, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington. Mae has been a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church for 45 years. Burial will be at the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
