Paonia resident, Alfred R. Schartz, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at his residence in Paonia. He was 93.
A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Paonia, Colorado.
Alfred R. Schartz was born to Nicholas and Frances (Becker) Schartz on November 11, 1920 in Adrian, Minnesota. Alfred spent his childhood and attended school in Adrian and Wilmont, Minnesota.
On April 25, 1944 Alfred married the love of his life, Mary Magdalen Loosbrock, in St. Kilian, Minnesota. To this union two children were born. They moved to Paonia in 1980, coming from Littleton, Colorado. The couple had the honor of sharing 58 years of love and marriage before Mary's passing in December 2002.
Alfred was a farmer and worked in sales for many years. He belonged to the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family.
Alfred is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Becktell; one son, Donald Schartz; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Alfred is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Schartz; one brother; one sister; and two half-sisters.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Alfred's memory to Hope West Hospice at P.O Box 24, Delta, Colorado 81416.
