Ernest Thomas Hayes

Mr. Ernest Thomas Hayes, 91, of Hickory Nut Ridge Rd., Granite Falls, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006 at Lenoir Health Care.

He was born Feb. 5, 1915 in Vilas, N.C., to the late James William Hayes and Amanda Alberta Hayes.

Mr. Hayes was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.

Survivors include sons, James Ernest Hayes of Hudson, Edward Monroe Hayes and wife, Dawn, of Benton Harbor, MI.; daughters, Mary Jean Yoder and husband, Ken, of Hickory, N.C., Lynda Hollars and husband, Billy, of Lenoir; daughter-in-law, Mary Hayes of Reidsville, N.C.; one brother, Rev. Elliott Hayes and wife, Roseanna, of Vilas, N.C.; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Miller Hayes; a son, David Thomas Hayes; one brother; five sisters; and one granddaughter.

Services were conducted Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Clifton Black and Rev. Tom Brashears and Rev. Tommy Hayes officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
