MAYODAN – Reverend G. Elliott Hayes, 88, died Monday, April 28, 2014, at Moses Cone Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Ellisboro Baptist Church with Reverend Jim Crews and Reverend Tom Hayes officiating. Interment will follow in Ellisboro Baptist Church Cemetery.
Reverend Hayes was born November 28, 1925, in AveryCounty, to the late James Hayes and Verta Binghan Hayes. He pastored many churches throughout his career, including Sugar Mt. Baptist Church (Newland, NC), Fellowship Baptist Church (Mt. Airy, NC), Chocowinity Baptist Church (Chocowinity, NC), Mt. Calvary Baptist Church (Banner Elk, NC), Calvary Baptist Church (Patrick Springs, VA), Osborne Baptist Church (Eden, NC), Little Rock Baptist Church (Boomer, NC), Ellisboro Baptist Church (Madison, NC) and Middle Fork Baptist Church (Blowing Rock, NC). He was a member of Woodbine Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John Hayes and Earnest Hayes and sisters, Thelma Kincaid, Bonnie Clark, Alma Hayes, Isabell Braswell and Ruby Childress.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Roseanna Perry Hayes of the home; sons, Kenneth Hayes and wife, Pamela, of Mayodan and Randy Hayes of Eden; grandchildren, Bryan Hayes (Savannah), Aaron Hayes (Leeanne), Kalynn Stewart (Jason), Nikki Hayes and Dustin Hayes; and great-grandchildren, Nora Hayes, Finley Hayes, Annabel Hayes, Peyton Gentry, Addison Gentry, Cayden Hayes and Emma Hayes.
