Rita A. (Scanlon) Belair of Methuen, MA, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on Thursday in Methuen, MA, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Lawrence, MA August 11, 1930 to Francis and Yvonne Scanlon. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry B. Belair, to whom she was married for 41 years. Rita grew up in Lawrence, MA and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. She and Henry raised their family in Methuen, MA, but loved spending time with family and friends at their camp in Tamworth, NH.
Before retiring, Rita worked at Raytheon Company in Andover, MA.
Rita will be deeply missed by her children, Janice Juknavorian and her husband Richard, with whom she resided for the past 6 months, Steven Belair of Auburn, NH, David Belair of Salem, NH, Patricia Stone and her husband James of Salem, NH and Mark Belair of Methuen, MA. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. In addition, Rita is survived by her siblings Frances Powers, Kathleen Knightly, Lucille Bourque, Richard Scanlon and Raymond Scanlon as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Philip Scanlon and her sister Claire Bird.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend her calling hours on Sunday, June 5th from 2-6 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St Methuen, MA. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 6th at 11 AM at St. Monica’s Parish, Methuen, MA. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Lawrence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of her great nephew Gerard Jacobs c/o the Billerica Scholarship Foundation, Town of Billerica Treasurer’s office, 365 Boston Rd. Billerica, MA 01821.
