They had a son Garfield A. born November 6, 1880, by C-section, this operation was performed by Dr. Baker of Stockwell, and was the first C-section in Indiana; Martin's widow, Margaret, survived him about twelve year, dying at about the same age as Martin.

In 1832, Martin came to this county with his family, accompanied by Parson Wright, and together they entered 160 acres of prairie land on section 29, Sheffield Township, and also he acquired eighty acres of timber land. He cleared and made improvements to this land, converting it into a fine farm where he lived until his death. Martin's occupation was that of a millwright. He was a first-class millwright, and gave the trade much attention. James Lucus, the father of Martin and Luther, also had two others sons that came to Indiana, William and John. A son James lived in Ohio, and his daughter Mary, married John Armstrong, and after their marriage, moved to Tippecanoe County, Indiana.
