FREDERICK HUMMER, 84, died suddenly at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Whitacre, west of Portland, early Sunday morning, following an attack of heart trouble.
He was the son of Amos and Sarah Hummer and was born in Green county, Ohio, October 31, 1836, making him at the time of his death, 84 years, 4 months and 27 days of age. He had been a resident of this county practically all of his life, having moved here in 1846. He had lived on the farm where he died for the past 45 years. His wife, Mary, preceded him in death fifteen years ago.
He leaves to mourn his death the following children, Sarah, wife of Abe Sager, of Greene township; D. A. Hummer, of Manchester, Ohio; Elmer Hummer, of Portland; C. W. Hummer, of Portland; Mary C., wife of Thomas Eliott, of Pennville; J. W. Hummer, of Freeport, Ill.; F. F. Hummer, of Bolivia, Ill.; Amanda A., wife of Charles Davy, of Middleton, Ill.; Martha L., wife of Ed Juillerat, west of town; Nancy S., wife of W. R. LaFollette; Eva L., wife of George Whitacre, at whose home he died. He also leaves the following brothers and sisters: Amos, of Portland; James, of Decatur, Ill.; Mrs. Sarah Weis, of Dunkirk, and Mrs. Ruth Armstrong, of Hartford City. He leaves thirty-seven grandchildren and five great grand children.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Union church. Burial at the Claycomb cemetery.
