In the History of Northumberland, rootsweb/Saratoga County, Mayhew is listed as elected Justice of the Peace 1845, 1849, 1854, 1858, and 1862.

According to 1905 notebook entry of Laura Ann (Stickney) Andrews, daughter of Hannah (Rice) Stickney and granddaughter of Noah & Prudence Rice, Mayhew Rice married Rebecca Archer. She was born Aug 10 1810 and married Sept 1831. Children
Edward Clarence born March 10 1833
Calvin Augustus born Dec 28 1835
Marshal Charles " Nov 11 1837
Levi Hemphill " Feb'y 15 1839
Levi Andrew " Feb'y 1844
Lucian Noah " April 15 1845
Sarah Elizabeth " March 28 1850
Martha Jane " April 11 1846
Wrongly entered, Sarah the youngest

I have been looking at Noah Rice as Mayhew's father, primarily because of the article, "Noah Rice of Saratoga County, New York: A 'Lost' Descendant of Edmund Rice" by Michael A. Rice. (Vol. 82, No.1 Winter 2008 p. 22.) Michael supplied me with the above from Laura Andrews' gg granddaughter, Linda Pedersen.

Mayhew's Great-great grandson, Al Winslow says he and his sister Harriet have spent many years attempting to establish Noah as Mayhew's father. They have concluded that it's not possible.

Al and Harriet's mother, Mae Rice Winslow and her brother Gene said that cousins married sisters and they named their first girl after each other's mother. (Mayhew's first girl was named Martha Jane, Martha after his mother and Jane after Henry's mother. Noah's wife was Prudence.)

However, they are working on the possibility that Noah Rice was Mayhew's step-grandfather. His father Levi Rice(married to Martha Mayhew before she died) married Noah's daughter whom they suspect was Sarah Rice. (The name given to Mayhew's second daughter Sarah E. Roberts.)

Finally, Al says it's more than likely Mayhew's full name was Levi Mayhew Rice. We do know that from the census of 1850 he declared his profession as navigator of lakes and rivers.
