Born in Morenci, (then part of Graham County), Arizona to the union of Italian immigrants Fernando Vozza and Rafaela Palermo Vozza, Julia was the seventh child of eleven children. Julia's siblings were Clorinda Hortencia, Asunta (Susie), Herminia (Erminia), Maria Clunia, Rosa Frances, Nuncia (Nancy) Luisa , Theresa Ermelinda, Josephine (Hudson), John Fernando, and Francisca.

On April 15, 1955 in Morenci, Arizona, Julia married the love of her life, Clifford William Jett.
