One of my memories of Saraphine (I called her Great-Grandma of course) was the way she would speak English with such a pronounced accent I sometimes found very difficult to understand. I never, Ever had difficulty understanding her when she called me her "sweet Mary" with such a loving look in her eyes. :0)
I remember her as a gentle and loving person.
She and Great Grandpa always felt it was important that their children never spoke French outside the family home. They wanted their children to be the Americans they were born to be.
I completely understand that, but sometimes I feel very sad that my French speaking heritage has been completely lost within my family.
