Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late William E. Cornwell and Artie Cline Cornwell.
He was a member of First Baptist Church. He retired as owner and operator of Cornwell Oil Company and served in the Army during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ray Crystal Greene Cornwell; and five brothers.He is survived by a brother, Hugh Cornwell of Forest City; a sister, Mary C. Rogers of Concord; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Zion Baptist Church.
