Muncie - Barbara "Jane" Barr, 80, passed away Wednesday evening, May 18, 2016, at the Morrison Woods Health Care Center following an extended illness.
She was born on October 29, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Allan P. and Mary C. (Taggert) Richards.
Barbara graduated from Massillon High School which is close to Canton, Ohio and later attended Dennison University and married the love of her life David Barr on June 30, 1956 in Canton and he survives. In 1961, they moved to Muncie and became members of the College Ave. United Methodist Church. In 1975 she graduated from the Nursing program at Anderson College at the age of 39 with honors and would find employment for several years at the St. John's Medical Center in Anderson. Mrs. Barr would go on to work for several physicians in the Muncie area and would eventually retire in 2000 from The Ball State University Student Health Center. She is a member of the Alpha Omicronon Pi (AOTT Sorority) and continued with the Muncie Alumni Chapter. She enjoyed doing ceramics, collecting owls, crosstitch and reading.
Besides her husband of sixty years, David, she is survived by two daughters, Lisa Jane Vellenga (husband, James), Muncie and Michele Suzanne Weber (husband, Mathew), Mesa, Arizona; four grandchildren, John and Katherine Vellenga and Cameron and Courtney Weber.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the College Avenue United Methodist Church 1968 W. Main St., Muncie, IN 47303 with Pastor Charlotte Overmeyer officiating.
Cremation is to follow with inurnment of cremated remains at the Elm Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Parson Mortuary and again from 10:00 a.m. until service time, Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the College Avenue United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association 50 E. 91St. STE 100 Indianapolis, IN 46209-4830.
