Playwright, Screenwriter. Best remembered for penning the successful play "The Anniversary" (1966), which became a 1968 motion picture adaptation starring Bette Davis. Born to Scottish parents, his father was a printer for a newspaper, Bill dropped out of school at the age of fifteen to work as a clerk, prior to his National Service, where he was stationed in the Far East. Following his return home, he focused fully on a career as a writer and broke into British TV during the late 1950s, as he penned stories for the programs "The Human Jungle" and "R3". His play "The Anniversary" was initial a success on the London West End, prior to becoming a film. He created the TV series "Two's Company" (1975 to 1979), which starred Elaine Stritch.
