Henry was the son of John Baptiste Pauly and Marie Jean Feller. Before he left Luxembourg, he was the registrar for the church records of Redange. Henry immigrated to America in 1848, settling first in Ohio, then Illinois until 1855, and finally Chanhassen, MN where he filed land records for 160 acres in Carver County, NW, Sec. 14, 28, Twp. 115, Range 26 in 1858, where he lives for the rest of his life.

He married Catharina Margaretta Klein in Illinois, daughter of Jacob Klein and Maria Mergen. They were the parents of Catherine who married Nicolaus Beckrich, Anna Maria, who married Peter Roeser, Margarita, who married Peter Feyereisen and Henry Wirtz, Nicolas, who married Wilhelmina Trutmann, Louisa Timmers and Appolonia Rose Weller, Hilarius, Mary Katerine who married Leonard Dressen and Magdelena, who married Frank Geiser. All seven children survived him at death.

His obituary stated: "Mr. Pauly was one of the early settlers of Carver county, and braved all of the dangers and hardships of the early pioneer, and by hard labor had made a comfortable home for himself and family."

Henry donated the land for the old historic St. Hubert Catholic Church and cemetery in Chanhassen. He died at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 27 days. Henry and Catherina's tombstone has not been located.
