Melvin C. Gainer, 82, of Columbia, entered into rest on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Susquehanna Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Columbia after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Janet E. (Grab) Gainer. They were married on September 3, 1955.
Melvin was a retired letter carrier for the USPS retiring after thirty-two years of service.
Born June 7, 1933 in Columbia, he was the son of the late Maris B. and Catherine M. (Murray) Gainer. A Catholic, Melvin was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Columbia and was a member of Knights of Columbus-Council# 2294, Columbia. Melvin was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of American Legion-Post# 469, Wrightsville. He also was a Scout Leader for BSA-Troop/ Pack #35, Columbia for over thirty-five years
Also surviving are seven children; Jean M. married to Vincent Vuono, Michael A. Gainer married to Deb, Catherine M. married to Thomas Malloy, Robert A. Gainer, Rosemarie Wittensoldner, John A. Gainer married to Tracy and David A. Gainer; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren two siblings; Grace Bish and Charlotte Smith. He was also preceded in death by five siblings.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial from Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry Street, Columbia, PA 17512 on Monday, May 16, 2016 at 10AM.
