She was born on March 22, 1936 in Provo, Utah to Gene and Delight Harding and was raised in Huntington.
In 1952, she married Alvin Strauser Pate and they had six children; the marriage ended in divorce.
In 1982, she married Frank J. Hammond who has three children.
Carolyn worked for Woods Grocery as a checker and then for the U.S Forest Services in map sales and later as an Engineering Budget Analysist, retiring in 1985 with 25 years of Federal Service. While working full time and raising her six children, Carolyn also held the office of President, and various other positions, with the local chapter of the National Federation of Federal Employees. In addition, she served as Second Regional Vice President of the Forest Service Council. For 10 years she worked as a volunteer with the Weber County Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center. Also, she attended summer sessions at the University of Utah School of Alcohol and Other Drug Dependencies.
Since then, she devoted her time to her Husband, Children, Grand & Great Grandchildren, neighbor kids (squirt gun fights), her friends, making quilts, & “The Club” (DI Shopping).
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Frank, five children: Penny (Pate) Gillett, Danny H. Pate (Kim), Carilyn (Pate) Bunpai, Jason H. Pate (Jodi), Travis H. Pate; three step-children: Frank J. Hammond II (Denise), David W. Hammond (Beverly), Paige (Hammond) Chaskelis (Aaron); eleven grand & step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Thomas Alvin Pate.
